My favourite lingerie brands and designers
I love my underwear. I probably own more underwear and lingerie than any other type of clothing, my wardrobe is bursting with it! Lingerie does something to the wearer. It can create an air of confidence or dominance and can change the mood or direction of a sexual encounter. When I put on a pair of seamed stockings and high heels, I feel powerful. When I slip into a lace bra, I feel classy and cool. Today I wanted to share with you some of my favourite lingerie brands and designers, some of which I have bought from, and others I merely lust after from afar.
Creepy Yeha is a New York based designer I found on Instagram and I'm madly in love with. She expertly blends elements of masculinity - leathers and metal, with feminine ruffles, tulle and transparent plastics. If I had to briefly describe her work, it'd be kitsch futuristic fetish. She recently created a beautiful bra and harness combo for FKA Twigs in her music video for "Glass & Patron." Prices range from $25 for wrist cuffs up to $300. She does ship internationally, but items are made to order, so they may take a few weeks to arrive.
For more affordable pieces, I love Asos. They have a really great mix of classic styles as well as more modern lines. The lace night dress above is €52. Not bad when you consider a similar one from Agent Provocateur costs the guts of €1000. I also love their Suri Strappy set and this blue lace Willow bra which makes for a nice Marlies Dekkers knock off.
Torrid in the States have some gorgeous plus sized bra and panty sets! I particularly love this Push-up Plunge bra. That purpley grey colour is stunning. Also this Bandage Chemise...Be still my beating heart! The one issue I have with Torrid is their international shipping is set at $50, so you might want to wait till you're buying a few things or order a number of items with a few friends.
Hopeless Lingerie is another great independent designer I found on Instagram. Gabrielle Adamidis hand makes all of her products in her studio in Melbourne, Australia. For such a small brand Gabrielle has accomplished quite a lot, having her designs featured in publications like Vogue, Marie Claire, and Playboy. Using geometry and simple lines, Gabrielle's aesthetic is small and strappy. Seriously, how perfect is this bodysuit? Sizes are available up to an 18, and while she does use particularly svelte models for her site, she makes sure to include customer photos of all shapes and sizes on her Facebook page.
I hope that's helped. If you have a favourite lingerie brand or designer, do feel free to post a link in the comment section and tell us why you love them.
